Welcome MoreDoor lovers, collectors, enthusiasts and the generally interested. This week we go to the far reaches of the U.S. to Fairbanks, AK. Representing MoreDoor Classics from the snowy north is Cole L and his 1973 Plymouth Satellite Custom 4 door sedan known as Sinister Satellite. Cole has picked the right name if you ask me, even though these cars were used in the movies a lot as good guy cars in the movies such as in the original Gone in 60 Seconds. He also says he noticed Satellites were used as police cars in the Dukes of Hazzard! Either way, Cole is on his way to having a pretty tough B-body. He stumbled on Sinister while roaming the Alaskan countryside. It was sitting in the snow and did not look like much at the time, but it had a for sale sign on it and Cole knew he wanted it. He wasted no time in calling the owner and striking a DEAL for it too - $550! He later found out he has saved the Satellite from the scrapyard. I'm glad it worked out for both Cole and the PO! With the help of his dad and a few friends, he has been able to get it up and running again.
Cole is often changing wheels and tires on Sinister which a lot of us tend to do. Above it is sporting 14" AR's on the front and 15" steelies with snow studs on the rear. This gives it the best stance with the front down and back up like any sinister car should look. He does hope to get a set of nicer wheels soon. |
Currently the interior is...green. It is very classic 70's American style but in great shape. Cole's future plans do not include much on the inside but it will be all black.
Currently the exterior is...green. Sinister is currently pretty much stock, but his future plans are to step it up from sinister to evil. What does that entail you ask? Well, black of course! Oh, and dark gray. Sinister will be painted dark gray with a black vinyl top and black stock appearing wheels but wider ones on the rear to hold larger streetable slicks capped off with chrome baby moons. Maybe he can even change the name to Dr. Evil? It sounds like a complete transformation but Cole wants to keep it all period correct which I applaud.
The motor/ trans combo currently is a 318/904 auto with a Chrysler 8-3/4 Sure Grip rearend. As you can see in the video, the current setup does not make much for a sinister car so the heart of his future plans of course includes a motor swap. What else would he do but a 440 interceptor V8 mated to 4 speed manual transmission? Sure, he could put in a hellcat motor but that would be too easy, too expensive, and not period correct. Other items on the menu include traction bars, Cherry Bombs, Hooker Headers, possibly a '70's Challenger rear spoiler, possibly a supercharger, but for sure fuzzy dice (must have). He also intends to do suspension upgrades so he can participate in some local cone carving events. |
Cole is a rather young fella but has gained a love and appreciation for MoreDoor Classics. A fair number of car enthusiasts prefer hard tops or pillarless MoreDoors, but not Cole. To him, a B pillar balances it all out. Cole's love for MoreDoor's and classics started with his Hot Wheels and his grandfather's 1948 Studebaker MoreDoor. He hoped to inherit the Studebaker one day, but it was sold off by some other family members. He currently owns a few other MoreDoor Classics too - a couple Internationals and an Eagle. Sinister is drivable, but Cole hasn't had too much time to enjoy it with winter coming quickly or already there in AK. He plans to take full advantage of next years car show season to show off his Satellite. Cole promises to send updated photos and video's of Sinister, and I will gladly update his feature!
