Welcome MoreDoor lovers, collectors, enthusiasts as well as the generally interested. This week we have from Fort Collins, CO one of America's finest, Rob S., and his 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Deluxe. Rob found his Chieftain last year and on eBay of all places! And as luck would have it, the Pontiac was just down the road from him. Other than having two teenagers and a dog to tote around, he chose this MoreDoor to hang out with his son so they could learn to tinker and restore it to its original beauty.
The Chieftain is still sporting the original straight 8, hydramatic trans., steel wheels, and hubcaps. A few things have been done in the short time he has had it. The front coils have been cut and 3" blocks added to the rear to give the Chieftain a more aggressive stance. He has also completed quite a task too, in my opinion, and that is converting it to 12 volt and rewiring it! Rob wouldn't had be able complete the work he's done so far without help from his friends on the Pontiac FB page, and Jeremy at Rebel Wire with the rewiring project. The Pontiac has been stripped of its paint and moldings removed to prepare for new paint - 1949 Pontiac Sage Green. The interior looks to be in great condition! | |
One thing I have been coming to appreciate more and more are the fancy emblems and hood ornaments on these classic automobiles. The hood ornament on the Chieftain happens to be Rob's favorite feature, and I couldn't agree more. I'm willing to bet that once the new paint is on, the chief will light the way to every car show and cruise-in Rob and his family can find. Eventually, if or when he is able to do some of the other custom touches he'd like to, such as custom bodywork or airbags or perhaps a chop, the Chieftain will look that much sweeter cruising down the road. Lastly, Rob is the Operations Chief for the Berthoud Fire Protection District. We thank you for your service Rob! |
*** UPDATE ***
Rob recently sent us this updated photo of his Chieftain after its new paint job. Looking pretty darn good Rob! Keep us up to date with progress and send more photos. I'll gladly post them.
