Welcome to Danny R. and thanks for being our first Weekly Feature Car here on MoreDoor Classics! I hope everyone will enjoy this new page on the website and check back each week as we will be sharing a different MoreDoor. There's nothing like sharing the MoreDoor love so be sure to send us YOUR MoreDoor Classic and we'll feature it!
So here we have Danny R. from Tennessee and "The Buick". His most loved MoreDoor (because who says we can only have one??) is a 1969 Buick Electra 225 with 68k miles. Let's face it; we all have pet names for the motorized ladies and I like his choice! Simple, yet effective. He got "The Buick" about 4 yrs ago from an ad posted on where else?? - Craigslist. Some valuable gems are hidden in those Craigslist ads! He saw it and had to have it. He actually traded a bodydropped S10 on air ride for it. Gotta love CL!
Of course in the motor world there are those of us who love modifying and those who love to keep classics (MoreDoor or not) well...classic. All original. No changes. Well our man Danny favors modifying and let me tell you what a job he has done so far!

Danny, with some help from his cousin, upgraded the tired, original 430 big block to a 5.3LS out of a 2005 Chevy pickup with 60k miles mated to the original TH400 transmission and still CURRENTLY has the original 10 bolt rearend with 2.56 gears. Other upgrades: an Edlebrock dual plane carb'd intake manifold, Proform 650 double pumper, MSD 6LS ignition box, GMPP "hot cam" with valve springs, the exhaust is a set of stainless headers, 2-1/4" dual exhaust with a x-pipe and Flowmasters turned down over the rearend. Amazing. Watch the video. Sounds tough!

One really cool, original feature (as if there could only be one!): the front seats have built-in cigarette lighters on each side for the rear passengers so no matter where you might be sitting, you can look oh-so-cool drawing on your cigg while cruising in the back of "The Buick." Now is a good time to remember this car was built at the peak of the Marlboro Man Era and if we're completely honest with ourselves, the Marlboro Man even gives James Bond a run for his money when it comes to Essence of Cool.
So how does "The Buick" speak to Danny? What pull does it have on his heart? Apart from being..well, HIS, it's unique! He's only seen TWO others: one in a field in Louisiana and one at a business in Morristown, TN. We all do stuff to our cars to make them unique and to stand out, but having one of the only ones you've ever seen has got to be cool. Well done, Marlboro Man, uh...Danny!

What other plans does he have for "The Buick" in the future? Danny hopes to paint the car eventually, but hasn't quite decided on a color scheme yet. He's leaning towards painting the exterior a charcoal, the exterior chrome black, and redoing the interior black as well. He is also toying with upgrading the rearend and, in the near future, upgrading to a new cam. Overall, it will most likely be a project car - one to tinker on anytime the mood strikes. But the ultimate goal?? To put it on air ride and just cruise. He doesn't know when, he doesn't know where, but driving it as much as he can until the wheels fall off. Now THAT is enjoying your MoreDoor!
As for MoreDoor memories?? Danny remembers his grandfather having two: an Olds of unknown model and year and a 1972 Dodge Dart Custom. The Dodge was his grandfather's last car and Danny's first. What better way to begin a an interest with the MoreDoor culture?
Finally, MANY THANKS to Danny R. for letting us feature his 1969 Buick Electra! You've done an awesome job giving life and personality to "The Buick" and giving us one more MoreDoor to show some love. Feel free to post comments or questions for Danny below.
