Probably my favorite car event happens early in the year (unfortunately), Chattanooga Cruise-in. Just about everything a car enthusiast would want is at this gathering (accept a swap meet) – it is free, there are tons of cars to see, a wide assortment of food, it is in a great setting, and there is plenty of shade. This cruise-in has grown by leaps and bounds even in the few years I have been attending. This year was no different. In fact, I would be willing to bet there were more attendees than even the event coordinators anticipated. I say that based on the bathroom situation that I witnessed. With three little ones, we are not stranger to the facilities wherever we go. My wife swears the girls just want to check them out most of the time because often their potty “doesn’t work” when go beforehand.
Another way I gauged the larger than expected crowd was the stopped traffic on I-24 at downtown. We left Knoxville around 6AM and took us about 2 hours. We were by no means “early birds” but felt good about our timing…until we stopped on the interstate. Luckily, we thought to head to the next exit and weave our way through downtown back to Coker. Not long after, we were parked, had our chairs out and snacks opened for a great day of just chillin’. We did have a great day too! The Impala also did great. I am cautiously waiting for it to break down on me but so far so good! It has been running too perfect for too long.
There was no shortage of MoreDoor Classics either! Honestly, there were SEVERAL that represented very well. I took a bunch of photos of so enjoy them. And a special thanks to Coker Tire, the City of Chattanooga and all the other sponsors. I cannot imagine the coordination involved for this free event and hoops to jump through to make this happen. I hope this continues. Who knows, maybe it will move to a larger venue and have a swap meet!
